Kyoto Research Center & Factory

In an effort to ensure the continuous supply of products we manufacture and our production system, we have opened the Kyoto Research Center & Factory in Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture. The main reasons for opening this Kyoto Research Center & Factory are as follows:

  • Risk distribution
  • Facility backup
  • Increase production capacity

Based on lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake, we made an overall review of our existing BCP (Business Continuity Plan) and disaster prevention schemes. The newly built Kyoto Research Center & Factory will focus on minimizing the impact on product supply during a large-scale disaster, and on fulfilling our social responsibility of business. For the purpose of continuity and quick restoration of our core manufacturing sector, we worked on the following BCP enhancement issues:

  • Countermeasure for inundation
  • Countermeasure for earthquake-resistant design
  • Logistics

Summary of the Kyoto Research Center & Factory

Site area: 6,173.91 m2 (62 m above sea level)
Total floor space: 4,217 m2

Three-story reinforced concrete building:

•1st floor – Meeting and product demonstration area for customers,
R&D demonstration area and Pilot production line.
•2nd floor – R&D area and Storage for parts.
•3rd floor – R&D area, Office, Cafeteria and other facilities.

Main facility
  • Central monitoring and control of Building Automation systems & test facilities.
  • Surface mount equipment (for high-mix, low-volume production).
  • Shelter area during blackout times.
Related facilities using energy saving and various energy sources:
  • Gas cogeneration system (35 kWh x 2 units)
These generate power by gas engines and utilize waste heat for central air conditioning.
  • Solar power generation
High-efficiency solar cell (approx. 15 kWh)
  • Countermeasures to reduce thermal load to the building
Exterior thermal insulation method, heat shield coating for outer wall, roof greening, and blocking the sun’s rays by solar panels.
  • Energy-saving for lighting
Installation of our LS1200 LED tubes, and other energy-efficient devices.
