Multi-channel, Mixed Signal Remote I/O R3 Series

Wide selection of I/O modules and network modules

  • Great flexibilities in number and type of I/O signals: DC current/voltage, temperature, strain gauge, AC current/voltage, AC power, etc.
  • Economical DC input module can handle fully-isolated 4 points up to non-isolated 16 points.
  • Hot-swappable I/O modules
  • Dual redundant communication networks

  • M3 screw terminal block is used for I/O modules. The removable terminal block is convenient for maintenance.

  • Network Module and Power Supply Module in one housing.

  • One I/O module plus one Network Module with power supply is the minimum unit: Space-saving and economical solution.

  • Dual network communication modules are optional for mission critical applications.
If you choose two different network protocols for the network modules, the remote I/Os can be directly monitored by two different manufacturers’ PLC systems.

  • Front View

The Power Supply Module is located at the right end, with Network Module inserted at its left. Network Module with incorporated power supply is available for small systems.

Multiple I/O modules can be mounted; No.1 at the extreme left end, No.2 and following modules to its right.

  • Hot Swappable I/O Modules

Each I/O and network module has an independent CPU.
Data is renewed by serial communications between modules. Therefore no momentary lapse or bumping of analog output occurs when switching communication buses in the dual communication mode.
Furthermore, removing or replacing modules does not adversely affect other modules on the same backplane. It is possible to replace them without removing the power supply.

  • Current Consumption

The network and I/O modules operates by the DC voltage (20V) supplied from the power module. Arrange these modules in order that the total current consumed by these modules be within this capacity. If the current consumption exceeds the limit, reduce the number of modules to be supplied from the power module.

Basic Configurations
Single Communication Mode

Single network module with internal power supply; no power supply module

Single network module with internal power supply; no power supply module

Single network module with external power supply module

Single network module with external power supply module

Single network module with two external power supply modules

Single network module with external power supply module

Caution:
No additional power supply module is available for the network module with internal power supply

Dual Communication Mode

Single power supply module

Single power supply module

Two power supply modules

Two power supply modules

Caution:
Network module with internal power supply cannot be used for dual communication mode. Combinations of two network modules with internal power supply, or of a network module with internal supply and an external power supply is not possible.
One of the network modules must be set to 'Main', while the other must be set to 'Sub' with DIP switches at the side of the module.

System Configuration Example

When Gateway Function is Enabled

With PC as Modbus/Master, communicates with slave devices via wireless module using Modbus/TCP and RTU protocol.
Also, Gateway function allows to communicate with slave devices connected in multi-drop configuration with wired network, using Modbus and RTU protocol.
