Self-Synch Transmitter — Model MXS

MXSModel MXS is a programmable transmitter converting position signals from a self-synchronizing motor into a DC signal proportional to the rotating shaft angle.

Taking the standard DC signal into a computer to retrofit gate opening monitor and control system is one of the widely used applications of the self-synch transmitter. Other angular data transmission applications include remote monitoring of positions of a valve, drawbridge, door, or cover.

Self-synch (self-synchronous) motors are electromechanical devices used for the transmission of angular-positional data or torque between remote locations. Typical system consists of a transmitter and a receiver, connected by three wires and powered by a common single-phase 110 Vac. No mechanical connection exists between each other. The transmitter and receiver may be identical units. Rotation at one location will create the same rotation in the other. The accuracy is typically ±1 degree depending on the frictional torque of the load. One transmitter can drive multiple receivers.

The MXS connected to these three wires plus two power supply wires in parallel provides isolated 4-20 mA or 1-5 Vdc signal proportional to the self-synch transmitter’s angle. The self-synch receiver can be then removed if not otherwise used.

EASY INPUT ANGLE SETTING
The input range is programmable via the front keys within 360 degrees with the minimum span of 60 degrees.

The self-synch’s nominal angle span can be directly entered in 0.1 degree increments via the front keys. If the angle span is not known, the actual 0% and 100% angle inputs are provided and memorized by pressing the front keys.

ANGLE MONITOR DISPLAY
The front 4-digit LED meter can show the present input angle.

LOOP TEST OUTPUT
Simulated output is programmable within the range slightly exceeding the normal full-scale for testing the receiving instrument or for system start-ups.

LINEARIZATION
Max. 32 calibration points are programmable to compensate delicate non-linear characteristic feature of the self-synch transmitter.

FIELD-CONFIGURABLE OUTPUT RANGE
The output range is configurable with the front keys within the respective maximum ranges of 0-20 mA, -1 to +1 Vdc and -10 to +10 Vdc selected when ordering.

ROTATING DIRECTION

The output signal of the MXS is field-selectable to be proportional to the self-synch’s clockwise or counterclockwise rotation without re-wiring.

OUTPUT LIMITS

The output signal of the MXS is programmable not to go beyond the low and high limits. For example, when the lower limit is set to 0.0%, the output signal is held for the input signals lower than 0.0%.
